well, to start off it is hard to just pick one boat that is better than
the rest, especially since we all have seperate tastes. If you are new
to kayaking, I would recommend borrowing or renting as many kayaks as
you possible can before you go out and buy one. I probably paddled in
30 different kayaks before I settled down on just one.
If you are looking for a good price, theres no better way to go than
used, imho. Kayaks don't seem to suffer much wear after a few years of
service, and you can usually find a good deal on used kayaks. I would
look for something thats a little more on the creek running side, as it
will be more predictable for you, and they are typically easier to
roll.
Its really hard for me to recommend just one boat, since there are
about a dozen I would recommend without hesitation. Probably the most
important thing is for you to literally sit in the boat. You will know
pretty quick if this is a boat you will be comfortable in.
Another piece of advice, the end of the season is coming up in a
couple months, and a lot of outfitters sell a lot of their fleet boats
and gear for really good prices. This is a great way to get started.
