What size kicker for a 18.5' PB ? - Folks, I finally got the old 1250 merc running :) However, since the motor is 30 years old I'd like to have a backup motor. So I thought about a 15 HP merc. The problem is that the transom is a little ... umm .. soft and I am worried the 15HP is too..

Need help identifying kicker motor - I just got a small kicker for my boat, and would like some help it. It is missing the top cowling, but the front says Sears on it. It has Tecumseh on the flywheel and a tag on the intake with the #s 640-16 and 7095. It is a single cylinder, 2..

adding kicker motor - Hello, Just got a 21ft, '01 Starcraft Islander aluminum hull and wanted to put a kicker for trolling. Can a 7.5hp small outboard push this boat at least 9mph or do I need bigger? Should I have the bracket installed or is this a DIY..

Kicker down when under way with main engine? - Is this a bad idea? Kicker is off and in neutral so prop spins and engine doesn't.

kicker lifts/mounting giving me a fit. - Hi: I have an 18.5 Reedcraft shallow draft all welded aluminum fish and ski with a Merc 80 Jet I use for mostly guiding rocky rivers here in Maine. Fishing pools and lake slow trolling with the jet ouboard at low throttle results in the intake shoe..

what size kicker motor could get a 19ft aluminum boat (1400 lbs, 14
degree hull) on plane? (Dont ask why) Wink

The Mercury Verado will do it.
Here is a link to the Mercury page:

You might even achieve Warp Speeds with it.

Who knows? but your main motor may give you some idea.If you have a 40 and
it easily planes and goes fast, say 40, then maybe something a lot smaller?
You didn't give a lot of info. My guess would be something like 15-25 hp?

I would look at a 10hp high torque model.

My 18.6 foot sailboat at 1200 pounds has a 6 hp outboard as it's auxiliary.

That's fine for your boat but the question was "how much horsepower is
needed to get on plane?".

The real question is how much horsepower to you need to be happy with
the boats performance. My guess is that lightly loaded and with one
person aboard you could probably get the boat to plane with about 25
hp. To be able to plane consistently with more than one person,
reasonable fuel, and a fair amount of gear, you'd probably be happier
with 50 to 90 hp.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I have an 18hp kicker that can't quite plane my 19' fiberglass boat.
