Having just had to purchase a few parts for a Mariner 10hp outboard I find
it amazing how much more the exact same parts cost in the UK as opposed to
the same part in the USA. For example: a Stator for the above mentioned
engine in the USA cost 113 dollars, here in the UK the same part is costing
me £160 yes that's pounds, a trigger for the same is 45 Dollars in USA and
£65 pounds here in the UK.
Is it just mariner engines that have this ridiculous price hike in the UK or
are other make of engine ripping us off as well.
I understand that as a rough idea of pricing compared to the USA its usually
if its a 100 dollars then its going to cost a £100 here that's bad enough,
but to then add even more to the price is not on.
Had to get that out of my system
Cheers
Gary

Pound for a dollar is bad enough but to then add 20 to 30% again is a bit
much for parts.
I was wondering if it would actually work out cheaper to fly to the USA pick
a new outboard up and bring it back in a couple of suit cases. I think it
might show up on the x ray machine though. Surprised)

The pound/dollar exchange works throughout everything in the USA. That's why
you can stay in a seven star hotel in the US for the cost of a Little Chef
Lodge in the UK. This is one instance where the boat owner is only being
ripped off by then same amount as everyone else in Blair's Police state.

I've ordered a few things from the States before and it isn't the
bargain it looks. For example, I was just looking at a part that would
have cost me £130 here and it was $135 in the US. But by the time I'd
paid $54 shipping to the UK, import duty/VAT the saving wasn't worth the
hassle of risking a warranty/return issue. So I didn't bother. I only do
it if there is no other UK source...
