Are there any good rivers for overnight canoeing or kayaking near Harriman
State Park in New York? I'm looking for a river that is fairly wooded and
remote-feeling. Harriman is along the Hudson but the river is anything but
remote-feeling at that point!

Thanks.

Basically, no. Actually, a little further north on the Hudson can look
fairly empty and there are things to explore. Nearer to Harriman, about the
only rivers that are regularly paddled would be the Ramapo and the
Hackensack. So far as I know neither have portions on which camping is
allowed. Also probably pretty low this time of year. The closest practical
river would be the Delaware. It's low too but passable and with campsites
available in the recreation areas, including a few primitive ones accessible
only from the river.
Otherwise you'd have to head for the Pine Barrens (Mullica or Batsto Rivers)
or out into Pennsylvania somewhere.
