You reckon they broke away from each other long enough to see your post? I
doubt it.

I like keeping a small p-n-s in my Jeep just in case. But, my little
Fuji is a nice camera, seems to do a really good job for the price,
5mp, but that damned lag just drives me nuts! >> Stay informed about: An open apology to Bassy and Dan.. |

Hey Bassy, In one of the other threads you mentioned messing around with
a Flight Sim.
I was wondering what type you're using. I picked up the latest MS FSX
last week, and had to upgrade my computer, put in a new Nvidia geforce
7600-gs graphic card, power supply from 300w to 500w, and added another
1gb ram.
It helped a bit,but I'm still not getting decent FPS unless I stay away
from the major cities.
Just wondering. UD >> Stay informed about: An open apology to Bassy and Dan.. |

Dan, I was using MS Flight Sim 98 until I got MS Flight Sim X, which is
way cooler! What exactly happens, does the screen seem to step or jump
for lack of better words? My computer is new, and I think it may have
the same graphics card as yours. I'll look into it. But, I'm not having
any problems with Flight Sim X. I'll look this evening and find out
exactly what I have for graphics, etc. and let you know! I successfully
flew with another person via broadband for the first time ever the
other night, now that's fun! Anyway, I'll get back to you about my
particular hardware, hope it will help. Nothing worse than trying to
fly a 747 with the screen jerking around! >> Stay informed about: An open apology to Bassy and Dan.. |

Bassy. The frame rates are really slow around the big Metro areas, so
yes its like stepping.
I started with MS 2004 using a Saitek joystick with a 17" monitor. Now
using CH products flight sim yoke, and rudder pedals with a Olevia 28"
monitor, big difference! I've yet been able to land the 747 without
crashing, but have done ok with the others. and most of the missions.

I'll bet with slow frame rates (THAT'S the expression I was looking
for!) it would be hard to land a 747. I've landed them quite a few
times successfully. I've just get a decent CH joystick. I'd like to
move up to yoke and rudder pedals. Can yours be used for racing sim,
too? I'm wondering if your big monitor has anything to do with it? I've
just got a 17 LCD. Or maybe they've made improvements in FS X. I'd
think it would be more of a resource hog because I'll tell you, it's
one huge program! But, the only time I notice things getting steppy in
metro areas is if I have a lot of stuff running in the background.
Again, I'll check out my exact set up and let you know. How are you
doing flying that damned helicopter? I can handle the 747 much easier! >> Stay informed about: An open apology to Bassy and Dan.. |

I'm all for a good joke. Hell, I play around with Kevin's insanity just
for fun. No apology required!

Sure, John, I own a nice business and during the day my focus is on
that. Kevin has another agenda and posts constantly.

I happen to know a little bit about flight sims so I guess I'll chime
in.
I've tried the FSX demo for a bit and it's ok. I get a decent usuable
frame rate even with bumping up the details to high. With the default
detail level, there's no jumping at all on my system. I'm sure I
wouldn't be able to use high details in a city though. I use it on a
laptop with an Intel 1.66GHz core 2 duo, 1GB PC5400 667MHz memory,
256MB ATI Radeon X1400 graphics driving a 40" LCD flat panel monitor.
The laptop is only a 15" widescreen, which looks pretty good too. But
that 40" LCD flat panel is incredible.
If you have a dual core processor, let me know and I'll give you a
little procedure I use to get MS FSX to use both cores and give you a
little better frame rate.
Now, if you want a "real" flight simulator with a much better motion
model and more realistic flying, try X-Plane. http://www.x-plane.com/
I get a much better frame rate with X-Plane than with MS FSX on my
system.
You can download and try out the demo version there as well. It's
fully functional for I think 6 minutes, but only comes with a tiny bit
of detailed scenery. The full world scenery takes up 60gig of disk
space. You don't have to load all of that though.
You'll never have as much fun as I have flying X-Plane at work, with a
3 flat panel video system that practically envelopes you, and using
the Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS controller, landing a fighter on a
carrier deck. The Cougar is even better than the CH products
controllers that X-Plane recommends, and the CH is pretty damn good.
Now, if you're REALLY into flight simming and want the best
controllers for x-plane or FSX where price is no object, check out the
yokes, pedals, avionics and even entire flight consoles at
http://www.flypfc.com/
You want to fly an absolutely realistic Space Shuttle landing? You
want to see what it's like to fly a plane on Mars? You want to design
your own plane with realistic flight dynamics? You want to run the
same flight simulator on Windows, a Mac, or even Linux? Try X-Plane.
