Well, it was about 72deg so we decided to just putter South down the
ICW from Southport to North Myrtle Beach... beautiful day to just see
the sights and enjoy nature.
Made one kinda slow-witted boo-boo. Traveling South along the ICW
abeam Lockwood Folly Inlet, I looked seaward and remarked to my wife
that they were dredging the inlet. It is a treacherous place anyway.
I've had some really tense transits of that area. I *was* distracted
though, by having to pull to starboard to the edge of the channel to
miss the oncoming tug and barge.... worries of running aground
myself... I glanced down at the depth and saw that it was 6.3
feet..... man, I thought, that is really shallow for the ICW... no
wonder they are dredging. Another glance at the barge and I noticed
that it was drawing just shy of eight feet. Realizing the situation I
grabbed for the mic just as the barge ran aground. SH*T. Oh,
well..... temporary disaster. Tide was coming in and it was just a
matter of time before they were floated.... but still a bummer that I
wished I could have helped avoid.
Anyway all turned out well, as on our return trip north we noticed the
barge and tug underway again. Pressure washed the boat. Secured
everything and on the way home scored 4 lbs of shrimp at $2.50/#.
Great way to end the day..... shrimp on the barbie and a dram of rum.
Arr arr arr mateys...... great to get away from politics, OT, and
etc..... my sympathies to you iced in ...... there is hope......
