Hey all! I have been thinking for a while about getting a jetski, and I
might make the plunge during the winter (wouldnt they be cheaper then?). I
just started trying to gain more information about jetskis and know
practically nothing about them, except for an enjoyable ride on one a long
time ago!

I want to buy a pair of them and I surely cannot afford two new ones.
Probably two 1995-1996 in the $4-5k range. My main concern is how much is
it going to cost me per year to maintain these? I sure see alot of posts
about broken down jet skis, but I figure you see that with anything.

Here is one near me that looks pretty good, but I bet in the winter these
jokers sell them alot cheaper.

Any sites that give me good information for new jetski lookers?

Thanks!
Cameron

1996 Xp and/or 1997 GP1200 and/or 1996 GTX. Dont look at anything else in the
1996-1997 years. However, if you do buy one of those PWCs, the second PWC
could be something like a blaster or blaster 2. Those are fun second pwc's.
But if you are only going to own one, I suggest the XP or the GP1200. XP is a
little more fun to ride but the GP1200 holds 2 people much more comfortably.
Expect to spend at least $100-$300 per year maintaining the PWC. Scale mostly
depends on if you have any mechanical skills or if you live in the midwest or
other area have to winterize.

I would have to winterize it here in Tennessee, but I dont see how that
could be much of a problem. I have a 1993 Mustang that I only drive once or
twice a week and I have stored it with a winter cover outside for years and
it still runs top quality Smile Only snows a couple times if any.

Why do you say not to look at anything else? Because of performance or
quality issues with other brand/model PWCs?

Ive pulled up a picture of that 1996 GTX and its one beautifull pwc. Is
there anywhere that gives the retail values of pwc and what one should pay
for them? I see that it has 110HP, about how fast does that get you up to
on the water? How fast do you want a jet ski to go on the water?

So I assume that more things tend to go wrong with pwc than with say a car?
But fixing it is greatly cheaper? I do most of the work on my cars myself
if I have the tools, so I dont see fixing minor problems being too much of
an issue.

One other question that I though of. If your out on the lake and the motor
goes out on you, can the battery give it a tiny amount of power to ge toyu
back to shore?

Sorry for all the questions,
Cam

Buy a couple of 96 Sea Doo XPs or GSXs. You can't go wrong with those
models. The 785cc motor in those skis is bullet proof. As with any used
boat, have a dealer or knowledgable person check them out before you buy if
possible.

don't expect the same if you put your new jetski away without being
winterized. that attitude will cost you money.

because everything else was pretty lame.

yes.

no. the short block for the GTX would be at the very least more than
twice the cost of the one in your mustang.

HAHAHAHAHA! hang around here, or better yet go get one. they can be
maddening. but don't let that scare you, they're definitely worth the
trouble.

no, you're screwed! keep your cellphone with you, or ride in a group,
or get ready to paddle.

 >
 > Sorry for all the questions,

hey, ask away, so that you may make an informed purchase. do some
shopping, see what the model you want is going for in your area, and get
you some jetski. you will like it. jetskis on the water are like
motorcycles on the road.
