Post subject: Question about mice
Archived from groups: rec>boats (more info?)

I own a little john boat and store it in a private garage in a "nearly
rural" part of town. Mice come into the garage from the surrounding corn
field. I have noticed mice pellets in the boat and once after bringing the
boat to my house, noticed a dazed mouse moving down the driveway and finally
finding the grass.

I do not want to kill these mice--I am afraid if they die in the insulation
under the flooring, the boat will stick of rotten mouse for a long time. I
do want to make the boat unpleasant for the mice--get them to leave.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I don't know about the 'stick' part but they sure will stink if they die in
a hard to reach place.
I'd talk to your town animal control officer or a pest control company for
some 'live traps'. You could then release the mice back into the
country...far away from
houses.

Wow, imagine skinnin' the little f*****s. I hate little animals, mice,
moles, chipmunks... yeah chipmunks and squirrels too. Had to remove a
couple of squirrels when I came to this place. I do use live traps and
take em' out to the "snip" (local lake). Anyway, just wanted to hijack
the thread for a minute. Hey ShortWave! Where can I go around here to
get 10-20 lbs. of good boston butts. Going down to the water to pick
up my smoker (and a small sailboat) today and the kids are bugging me
for some kielbasa and sausages.

Spread some moth balls around your boat. That will keep them out of
it.

I will look around, just wondered if you had a local butcher you used.
For reference, I am in the tri town area, only several hundred yards
from Rein's, closer to the mall. Thanks for the link, opening it up
now.

Hmmmm - good question - don't know exactly where you live.

Big Y has always been good to us with fresh meat products.

Geissler's Supermarket has a great meat section.

I've heard good things about Adolf's, but I've never bought there.

If you are near Reins go there.

No pork products, but the beef sausages are terrific.

Dittos to that. Moth balls have worked for me - and not just on mice.
Raccoons don't like 'em either.

That sounds particularly cruel, but even if you plan on doing this, how
do you get their little legs apart to pull off their balls?

Might just pick up a samich before I head out to DMV to get my
sticker, always a line in Enfield, much nicer in OSaybrook. I always
bring a sandwich, drink, mp3, and a little guitar just for the wait.

By "don't kill" it seems you just don't want them dying where you
can't get to 'em. Get regular ol' mousetraps baited with peanut
butter, or those sticky traps that just glue them in place. Then
dispose of the bodies wherever.
