On that page, I notice that you say:

Vessel licensing has always been a federal responsibility. The
licence for my old boat was issued by Fisheries and Oceans Canada in
2002, and I recall going to the federal govt Registrar of Shipping to
get my first vessel licence many years ago.

If vessel licences were a provincial responsibility, surely each
province would have its own format for the numbers. Smile
