I have two issues with my 1997 GP760.

First issue is a year old. The unit will not start cold without starter
fluid. Choke works fine, unit runs fine and will restart anytime during
the same day. Before discovering started fluid, I could get it started
but it took forever and many times needed a jump before it actually
kicked in. It has a primer ball and it is hard so there is pressure to
the carbs.

Second issue is new. If I accellerate slowly, no problem. If I gun
the engine from full stop, most of the time it will die unless I release
the throttle quickly.

Any help would be appreciated as the service manual does not cover
either one.

Thanks
Ed

What do you mean a primer ball? This was not standard equipment on the
Yamaha. If someone added a primer kit, the choke plates should be gone
and the primer looks like a cigarette lighter plug that you pump up and
down to squirt raw gas into the carbs. If there is an old fashioned
outboard motor type primer ball, then someone has futzed with the fuel
system and this is likely the cause. Install a real primer kit and it
will likely solve your problem.

Your other problem is also carb related and perhaps they need a good
cleaning (there is an internal fuel filter inside the carb that gets
gunked up with yamafuzz and so it probably needs cleaning).

Thanks for your help.
The boat is actually a Nautica Jet Dingy with a GP760 motor in it. The
primer bulb is the standard for that boat and it is an old outboard
type. I will look into a primer kit because the bulb does a good job of
getting the fuel to the carb but it does not put fuel into the
cylinders. I was debating doing a carb and fuel pump (integral to the
carb) and it looks like it needs one.

Thanks
Ed
