Anyone? I'm thinking some mild hydrogen peroxide, soap, and scrubbing.
Not sure I want to do the bleach bit, because I'm not sure what that'll
do to the foam....

Before attacking it with chemicals, try just leaving it in the sun for a while.
The UV will kill some types of mildew IIRC.

Lemon juice and salt can be used. Wet the area with lemon juice and then
cover with salt. Let it sit in the sun for a while.

You can use chlorine bleach (2 tablespoons per quart of warm water). Wet the
are with this and let it stand for about 15 minutes. Rinse with water. If you're
worried about continued bleaching, put some dilute vinegar on it to counteract
the bleach.

Dilute vinegar will work on its own.

Acids will mess up the lycra/spandex bits of the PFD - usually used only on side
panels and some shoulder straps.

If it's really bad, get a new PFD - that would be better than risking damage to the
fabric or foam.

Good deal, thanks. I believe the mildew itself is dead, but it's the
leftovers that cause the staining I've got to get. I'll try the very
mild bleach solution, and just flush heavily afterwards.

Thanks again!
