I am looking to buy my first ski. After some thought I desided that a 3
seater which I can pull freinds on tubes and stuff would be the right choice
for a first ski. If I get a second ski later it probably would be a 2
seater.

Next I probably will put low hours on it each year but want it to be hassle
free for many years. Sounded like a 4 stroke to me. Correct me if I am
wrong.

Next Which brand. I have heard bad things about the Doo's( repairs and
rust) Does that apply to the new 4 tec It looks real nice and is the HP
leader. Anyways I think because of the bad Doo reports that I have narowed
it down to a Kawasaki stx 12f (150 HP) and have a price quote of $7800.00
(new) or the Yamaha fx140 (140hp) No price quote yet.

Oh it will see salt water 50% of the time I use it.

Questions
What do you recomend?
Is 7800 for stx 12f a good price?
did Seadoo fix there issues when they went to the 4 stroke?

Highflier

PS Sorry for the lengthy msg but I figured info would be needed to give good
advice.
Thanks in advance!

Defininately the Kawasaki STX 12F. Larger displacement motor, lower RPMs =
less trouble and more torque sooner for towing your friends, and you also
have Kawasaki's ledgendary reliability and quality. - Bob

I agree, I have 40+ hours on my STX-12F, not one hiccup.
It is very dependable and is not a large ski, you fell like you are on a 2
seater when you are riding

I join the STXF consensus.
STXF is a better hull. The FX140 just feels to heavy in the water.

125 hp . . . or, are they making a model that is less detuned now? But, even
at 125, I hear Kawa's 4-stroke is easily as fast as Yam's fx because Kawa's
hull is smaller and much lighter too: Kawa went to fiberglass. It's the
quintessential lake boat but pretty tough on the body when the going gets
rough. Yam's hull is the ticket for ocean-going.

Damn your right. The f'n sales guy lied to me. He said 150 but it is
really 125 or so the web states.

What is the Yamaha boat made of. I thought they all were fiberglass.

Is the Kawasaki 4 stroke as quiet as the other 4 strokes?

yes, its as quiet as the other 4 strokes.
Buy the July issue of Personal Watercraft Illustrated for a comparison of all
the regular breathing 4 strokes.

Mine does 55MPH on the GPS, anyone is south Florida is welcome to try mine out
if they want a test ride. My only mod was the GroupK Ride plate mod.

Hey Todd,

I was thinking about putting that ride plate on my STX DI, can you
still use the reverse bucket? Some ride plates won't let you use the
reverse.

Thanks

Keith,
yes, you take your stock ride plate off and send it to Group K, They will mill
your ride plate down a bit in the rear and then send it back to you. You can
leave your reverse bucket on it.
They charge 70.00 plus shipping, its a good deal IMO.
I will be putting the Solas Concord prop on next to try it out on the STX-12F

Thanks Todd,

I'll do that this winter. Don't want any down time on the ski just
yet! Smile
