I'm looking for some evaluations of how a Bahiya performs,
particularly in lake or estuary conditions, in winds and for rolling.
I wonder how difficult this boat would be to control in winds by a
5'5" paddler.

Rene' van der Zwan posted a detailed evaluation about the boat in open
ocean environments last February and mentioned some difficulties in
wind, but so far no one else seems to have commented on the boat. It
sure looks sleek. Here's a link to Rene's comments:

I have a Bahiya and have paddled it in some wind. But not extensively
yet. In general it is not a beginners kayak, as it depends on leaning an
d control strokes in order to turn, as all rudderless kayaks. The
flatter midsection also made it surf and run with the waves, where you
had to be alert to keep it straight. But it was fun to paddle in the
waves! This was done with an empty kayak, I have not tested it with a
full load yet.

Rolling it is easy. I can do it and I have just recently learned that
art. (I am 186 cm/ 72 kg).

My early evaluation is that you should probably not be a total beginner,
and you should like P&H style kayaks, like the Sirius, which is similar.
(The Sirius is also a very good alternative, especially as it has been
made in smaller sizes.) I like it: it is beautiful, it feels good, and
has a lot of potential in learning the more advanced skills in kayaking.
