An outboard motor was offered to me with a cooling problem.
I am new to outboard motors and do not know what to look for.
They told me that they serviced the motor and requested help from an
engineer when they got to the tail.
The impellor seemed to be okay.

The engine looses power after approx. 20 minutes.

What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Ton

The problem could be easy or hard to fix and if you are new to
outboards then anything over a fiver is robbery.

Thanks for your response.
The motor is a bargain, ?125. But that is still too much if anyone would
know by head that these motors are beyond repair since this could be a well
known problem.

you could start bt doing a compression and spark test on it.
Compression should be about 80 psi and spark jump at least 3/8 inch.

If it looses power after 20 mins it is probably overheating.
On older engines this is commonly due to a blocked water passage if the
impellor is OK.
The problem is you do not know if ay damage has been doe.

I would not buy, £125 seems very expensive for a 3hp which is not in good
working order.

Alec,

Thanks for your response. That's what I expected but I just needed that
little push in the right direction.

King Regards,

Ton
