We think we've found a boat that we want to purchase in Canada. Are
there any forms, fees, red tape that we need to know about before we
purchase. And should I be calling the Canadian border people for info
or the US???? Thanks!

Hubby has fallen in love with the boat and wants to run out & get it!

Sandy

You will have to deal with US Customs and state vessel registration
departments - don't think the Canadian authorities will care (but I've
never done this (either way)).

I suggest you also ask in rec.boats.cruising or related groups, where
you are more likely to find an American who has bought a Canadian
boat.

Is it of US manufacture? If not be careful. You need to make sure it is compliant with the US regulations and laws. It may not be. Getting it out of Canada shouldn't be any problem but importing it into the US may be. For sure you need a "Commercial / Pro Forma Invoice". I suggest you deal with a US Customs Broker prior to importation or even purchase. They will be familiar with US requirements on imports. They aren't expensive and you will be protected as the broker has to be licensed by US Gov.
