Looking for good (read, cheap) places in the GTA to buy basic marine
supplies - lines, fenders, stuff like that.

How is Genco for prices? Fogh? Holland?

Or am I better off ordering from the U.S.?

Thanks,

Henry

It depends, as each vendor has niche specialty

If it is a small enough boat, and all you need is dock lines and fenders,
try walmart to cdn tire.

While I am not from yer GTA, I drop by frequently.
I prefer Masons The Store in Port Credit - good selection, good hours, ok
prices, and never had a parking problem.
Holland Marine - but parking can be a challenge

WallyMart - sun screen, sail ties ($0.97 meter), Atwood line of boat parts
outboard gas tank and fittings, bilge pump etc
Cdn Tire - for bottom paint, dock lines, most s.s. screws
HomeDepot - other s.s. fastensers
Rigging shop
I like to build my list in fall and shop by price at the boat show

However, there at Port Dalhousie Marina, there is Pier Pressure Marine, who
have a good selection of paints, sealants, cleaning supplies, and general
boat parts (although they are a power boat specialist). Their prices are as
good as anywhere often +/- 25 cents of CDN tire.
Also they can get most items in 2 days.
I bought my radio there last year for $10 more than the lowest CDN price on
the internet, but $20 less than that big radio place in TO.

Just up the street there is Pt. Dalhousie Paint & Wallpaper who have a
marine paint section - International & Sikkens at good prices

In Hamilton there are two - Dowsers and another ... who also have good
prices and selection.

well my opinion the best place to buy marine supplies is west marine, i work
at a fast paced marina and we order stuff every day for boaters and its
simple...

NO NO NO!
John's marineland in Markham is the end all and be all. Sure you will
find nicer stores to browse around in with fancier window dressings, but
these guys are the home depot of the boating world. If they don't have it,
then it doesn't exist. They have been in the hwy 7 and Markham road area now
for 50 years. Anything with the word chandlery in is a sure fire one way
ticket to high prices.
