I want to buy a USED 2 or 3 seater jetski (1996-2001) but I'm a bit
confused about which one to get.
I could use some help from users.
Seadoo looks and sounds good but I heard bad things about them from
the local jetski mecanic.
Yamaha waverunner, wave venture , Kawasaki 1100 , Polaris ? What's my
best?
Any tips will help as I'm totaly new to the sport.
Also, do the Kelley blue book(retail and trade in) accuratly reflect
market prices?
Thank's

More important than the brand name is how the PWC has been used/ abused and
how has it been maintained. The main thing is to get it checked out
thoroughly by a mechanic you can trust.

I have a 2000 Polaris Virage and have been very satisfied. But a lot of the
buyers of other makes may also be equally happy with their PWC's purchased
then. About a year or so after I bought it, I had a market survey call that,
I was told, was seeking to determine the level of satisfaction among PWC
buyers of new 2000-2001 models. The woman calling said the survey was being
paid for by one of the manufacturers but she couldn't disclose which one.
She mentioned that out of the many other buyers with whom she had
spoken,.almost all had said that they were very satisfied with the PWC they
had puchased, regardless of the brand. She also said that was much different
from many previous consumer surveys of other products she had done where a
lot of buyers people had serious complaints about one or more particular
brands or where a lot of people surveyed had a poor opinion of the entire
industry.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I would suggest you add a few comments on what you want to do with your ski.
like the other post says you could be happy reguardless of which brand you
choose, However there is some model/ years you might want to avoid. I did
some research this year and here is a few things that I heard

Sea-doo seems to be the inovater, but has had some reliablity issues with
some models
Kawasaki, #1 for reliablity
Yamaha, is middle ground between the 2
I did not research or hear much about Honda or Polaris.

I chose to buy 2 ski's One for me and one for the wife
New Kawaski 12f (Has run like a champ no regrets)

97 Sea-doo XP I have had some troubles with it and the engine does not
perform to my expectations
That said I plan to buy a New XP DI becuase I really like the way it rides
and jump waves, If I could put a 12f motor in an XP I would be in Heaven.

Info like Lakes and towing skiers or Ocean and wave jumping really are 2
extremes of which ski may be best for you.

If you are not real mechanically inclind. Spend the money on a new ski
perhaps a 4 stroke model, you'll have so much fun that you probably will do
what I did and buy a second used one. That way if there is trouble (Which I
have had, The Newer ski will be able to tow you back in).

Rapidly turning into a jetski mad man..... No wave is to big...at least not
with 125HP Maybe, I may rethink that if I get to 215HP throwing me up into
the ski.

IMO - Polaris Virage TXi. Reliable, nice versatile size, outstanding
fuel economy, and decent looking ski. The kbb does not really reflect
the market price. I have found that they are only worth whatever the
market will bear, and the market is greatly affected by the season,
geography and employment/marriage status of the seller.
