Yamaha 800 xlt excess prop spin from dead start

Post subject: Yamaha 800 xlt excess prop spin from dead start

Tried out a 2003 yamaha xlt800 today. Machine only had 16 hours on it.
Couple of cosmetic issues but real issue was that the ski would
cavitate and have excess prop spin if given around half throttle or
more from start. I have ridden gp800's and have not experienced this.
Before plunking down some $ and buying this unit, can someone tell me
if this is the nature of the beast, or what might be wrong with it.
HOw much $ could I end up spending to get it right. Also, I did adjust
the tilt in different positions and it made no difference. Ditto for
when riding with one or two people.

I own that machine and do not have that problem at all, sounds like the
impeller might be damaged....
