Post subject: VENICE, FLA QUESTION
Archived from groups: rec>boats (more info?)

Posting here since I could not find a "Venice, Fl" newsgroup. Sorry if
my question is somewhat off-topic. Have been doing research, trying to
find a suitable retirement venue. I plan on visting Venice, Florida in
the near future but first wanted to ask if any residents (or former
residents) know if Venice, Fl. has any serious flooding issues, like
many other Sunshine State coastal areas. Hurricanes can make any area
a flood zone, but was wondering if Venice had any "routine" flooding
issues. Also, would appreciate any comments (good or bad) about the
Venice area based on personal experiences. Thanks in advance - Brian

Just type "flooding" "venice, florida" into your web server. Lots of hits.

I live about 40 miles south. Venice is a pretty good area for
boating, no flooding issues that I'm aware of but anything is possible
if the wrong hurricane hits. That's a risk anywhere in coastal
Florida. We have friends who have lived there for quite a while and
they seem to like it. It's an easy drive from Venice to Sarasota or
Tampa, both of which have a number of attractions.

This is the best time for buying property in FL in 5 or 6 years, lots
of bargains around.

BrianInNY,

If you type in anything, you will get lots of hits.

287,000 for "flooding" "in" "hell"

1,090,000 for "pigs" "fly".

So typing in "flooding" "Venice, Florida" will not tell you anything.

Visit http://tinyurl.com/6df327

and you can see that Venice does not have a flooding problem anymore
than the rest of coastal Florida. You definitely will need flood
insurance, because if you house is destroyed by a hurricane, all
insurance companies will highlight the fact that the damage was the
result of the storm surge, which is not covered by regular homeowners
insurance.
