Basically you remove the pivot screw in the tiller arm and then fit the
rudder cable connecting plate to the outboard in the position specified by
the engine maker. This may be two or three threaded holes inn the underside
of that part of the tiller still fitted to the engine.
Depending upon make there may be two "cut-outs" with grommets in the "under
engine tray" or two knockouts. This allows the gear and throttle cables into
the engine case. Usually just inside the "tray apertures" you will find a
couple of threaded holes to fit the cables' outer clamps to.
Exactly how the inner cables are fitted to the engine depends upon design so
the dealer's advice should be sought. This often involves fitting additional
brackets etc. or holes may already be in the relevant mechanism.
Remember that the gear arm inside the remote control lever assembly often
has two holes, giving two different cable travels. You need to select the
correct hole.
I trust this helps, but we really need a Tohatsu expert - I hope one comes
along soon.
