Hi there,
I bought a 14 foot boat with trailer. The problem I have is that the hubs
had about 2-3mm 'float' when the hub nut was tightened up fully. I felt that
this was too much. I have now fitted new bearings and I need to know how
much play to leave, to allow sufficient clearance for thermal expansion.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Davy

With taper roller bearings, the norm is to tighten it until you can just
feel the bearing dragging slightly then back it off until the wheel spins
but with no play.
Use a waterproof grease.

Thanks for the info Brian. I'll get my new bearings adjusted accordingly.
