Starting Problem

Our family takes our skis out twice a year. We have a 1995 Yamaha and
a 1994 kawaski. The kawaski starts with the help of starter fluid but
it wont idle. We tried to start the Yamaha but it only maks a small
winning sound. Is there some sort of starter that can be replaced on
teh yamaha or should we just take it into the shop and have them deal
with it. I really want to do the work myself........any suggestions?

On the Kawasaki, the carb(s) will need to be rebuilt or cleaned. The
jets are clogged. On the Yamaha, if the starter is turning but not
engaging the engine, then the starter bendix is bad or rusted. You
will need to pull the front cover of the engine off, take off the
flywheel bolt, remove the flywheel with a puller, and then remove the
bendix.
