I haven't been able to find some basic info on the S. fork American
River.
Where can I put in / take out ?

Also, where can I park legally?

I have a map, and based upon my desire to run only level II it looks
like I'd like to put in around Coloma, and take out around Greenwood
creek. This looks OK on the map, but I'm looking for some "ground
truth".

Yes, it's just like you suspect. Put in at Coloma and take-out at
Greenwood Cr. You'll be able to tell the Parking area at Greenwood by
all of the cars parked in front of a gate on HWY 49.

Put in at the state park in Coloma - take out at Greenwood but it is a
bit of a hike. You can take-out at the Highway 49 bridge,
Lotus-Henning Park, or camp Lotus for a shorter trip and an easier
take out.

If no parked cars, look for the skid marks on the highway. Speed limit
there is 55 mph, and with kayakers + kayaks crossing the road, it's
dangerous. BLM is not currently interested in adding parking at that
location.

Be careful out there.
