I have a couple Mad River canoes with the almond color gel coat finish. I
need to repair some gouges/scratches etc. in the gel coat. In years past,
Mad River sold the gel coat repair material. Now that its been bought out
and down sized, the repair material seems to no longer be available from the
company. Ideas on alternate sources? Prices? Thanks.

I think the company is called Spectrum Color and they're in Kent, WA.

They probably have the color or can match it.

Jack,
Most 'older' boats have a similar problem. Even if the OEM is still in
business, and has supplies of the 'present' colors, there is the issue of
slight color change due to UV exposure over time.

You can get 'Gel Coat' in Pints & Quarts . . . both in 'Clear' {or
'Neutral' ?} and White. Add to that a tube {or tubes}of 'Colorant', and you
should be able to MATCH the existing color. HINT - mix the Gel Coat &
Colorant FIRST - use a finger and smear a dab on the hull to check the
match. When you have the tone you want, THEN add the Catalyst.

I believe 'EverCoat' {?}is one brand.{I typically use Epoxy, the quart of
Gelcoat is in the shop, and I'm to lazy , etc.}Check with West Marine. ALSO
check at your local Home Depot. The same stuff is used to 'repair' bathtubs
& sinks. 'EverCoat' also makes Polyester Resin . . . which is what Gelcoat
usually goes over.

Regards & Good Luck,
