I broke about half the skeg off my Mercruiser outdrive. Is it repairable or
will I need a new lower unit case?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Jim,
You can buy a new skeg for around 30 bucks and have someone weld it on
for you, or you can buy a stainless steel skeg guard and install it
yourself .... they run around 100 bucks.
Good luck,
Rob

A good welder can repair it. Keep cold wet rags on the gear housing to
prevent ruining the seals.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be seeking a repair shop in Phoenix soon.

Jim

The small Blackfin Skeg was designed specifically for the Alpha Mercruiser. The Blackfin will give you superior protection against underwater obstruction and will make the alpha outdrive steer much better. You can install the Blackfin by yourself in the driveway. The kit has everything you need for installation Also the Blackfin looks like it came that way from the factory.

Broken skeg - As reported earlier I broke off the skeg of my mercruiser unit, or most of it. A trip to the repair shop and a Skeguard attached. $179 plus install, two holes and bolts. I have not had it in the water yet but looks to be a good product. If I'd know..

Bravo III - is skeg supposed to have a bend? - I just noticed that the skeg on my new boat with B3 has a slight bend/twist. Almost looks like it's supposed to be there. No signs of damage. I seem to remember reading something about bends in skegs to counteract torque steer, but then i thought..

Steering tab or skeg on an Alpha 1 outdrive - I have a 1995 19 ft cuddy with an Alpha 1 outdrive and rack & pinion steering (not power steering). In searching for a new prop the Mercury prop selector recommended an Alpha 4 20 pitch (48-834854A45) so I bought one. When I went to put it on it clea...
