Has anyone had experience selling a Canadian registered boat located in
the U.S. to a Canadian who wants to haul it back to Canada? I assume
the purchaser needs a bill of sale and the paperwork for the boat to
bring it back without problems or cost. (researching for a friend)

This question has been covered many times in this newsgroup. Suggest you
use Google Groups and try a few searches, you'll find it all in detail.

Actually it has not. This case talks about a boat that is registered in
Canada but is outside of Canada.
So it would look the same as if it was bought in Canada. PST for sure.
GST on the broker fee if a broker is involved.

if you are cruising in the US you need a cruising permit and it states
specificly that even listing the boat for sale constitutes an infraction.
We did the same thing buying a C DN car in the US from travellers that
hopped a plane home....in ignorance we crossed over into the Canada customs
and asked what we need to do to bring it back....they acted like we were
steeling it and turned us back to the US side to export before importing it.
The US side acted like we had been caught red handed trying tpo smuggle it
and warned us we would be on a list and if anything ever happened again it
would two strikes and out! Two innocents bringing back a $100 25 yr old
Audi!
Get the real facts and don;t rely on a NG for the final word... note, a
short time ago you would never have thought you'd need a passport to enter
the land of the free!
Buy a blue booked boat to ease the risk as well.

Well here is the thing, a Canadian will be subject to the normal tax here,
what I did was I purchsed a british boat in USA,,,hmmm many say? well here
is how I did it

I made an agreement with the seller that a law firm here in canada gave an
under taking to provide funds once the boat was on canadian soil (you can
also do it with lawyers in USA but the bill must say not for sale in USA),
that is in effect I delayed the purchase till I got to customs in fort Erie,
the boat was from florida, I didnt get tittle till I paid in full but the
bill of sale said the word for sale only in canada aye!!

You see a britsh boat is subject to a hudge export tax/duty penalty in the
USA pls all there taxes on top but here in Canada no such thing...it went
smoothly with no problem at the USA or Canadain customs..

And buy the way if the sale takes place in the USA all taxes and inport duty
is due to the USA and then when it comes back here you get pinched again!!
sooo get it to the canadian boarder then do a sale, negociate with the
seller, since he will have to pay the import part, this way all you will pay
is the PST here on the boat
