another SeaDoo DESS question

My 99 GTI ran great today at Lake Lewisville, TX. But, when starting, I got
no Beep Beep! My neighbor's 97 GTI does the same thing. They will both
crank but I don't get the beep beep when hooking on the lanyard. I read in
my SD manual to press the start button 5 times w/ the lanyard OFF. I did
that but got no long or short beeps. But the engine still cranked and
started. Also, my gas gauge isn't working, it just sits on E.
What to do??

Most likely the piezo "beeper" has simply gone bad. They're not that
expensive and are pretty easy to replace.
