Hi All
I was given a 94 SeaDoo wave runner that had a blown engine so I put
an engine from my 88 SeaDoo that had a bad haul and put it in it..
All last year I run it without any problems. I took it out the first
time this year and it started right up and as I was bring it around
from the boat dock to the house it cut out about 4 or 5 times - Now
when I try to get it to run if I go above 4000 rpm's it just cut right
out - but 2 or 3 times this past weekend it would start up and I got
it to take off - while driving it, it would cut out but then turn
right back on and continue running, because of this my dad thinks it
is bad Gas (from the long winter months) but, the majority of the time
it would just stop running around 4000 rpm's and once it stop I would
hit the starter and it would start right up, I don't have any warning
signals indication low oil or overheating - I have even swapped the
cooling sensor on top of the engine with another and that did not help
- I kept thinking something electrical is causing it to stop but I
can't figure it out - I would like to get some opinions on what to
look for next - Is there a way to by pass the sensor so I can rule it
out as a cause
I put a timing light on it and when the engine stops running I seam to
lose spark
I just don't understand , if it is an electrical problem why would it
run at all - what kicks in at 4200 RPM's that would cause this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well, it's probably the Sea Doo engine doesn't like running in a Yamaha
(waverunner) "Haul "
Seriously, it sounds to me like a clogged fuel filter, or fuel line.
Try running it on RESERVE instead of ON and see if the problem goes away.
if it does, you probably have crap in the valve. Other than that, clean
the fuel filter out and see what happens.

I just can't figure out why it just started happening when I took it

Thanks

Rob,
Reading your message leads me to believe that even if one starts a PWC, that
it will not continue running in the battery is taken out of the circuit/? Is
that right, that a PWC needs the battery to be in the loop or else it will
die and not continue to run?
I know on my Toyota automobile, a bad battery would keep the thing from
running. The service tech said that on some cars the battery juice was
needed to energize some sort of field coil. Wondering if such is the same
with the PWC's.
