so we have a tough time seeing posts actually about boating.

Sierra Club has local kayaking sections, including Gold Country paddlers
(Sierra foothills), River Touring (Oakland) and Loma Prieta (San Jose).
Each section has monthly meetings and they do a lot of class 2-3 trips.

Yes, all the aforementioned kayak clubs have pool sessions at times,
but I don't know details. Other pool sessions are available but sorry
I'm not sure where.

Bulletin boards around Coloma (on the South Fork American) are good.
There are For-Sale sections on boatertalk.com and elsewhere, but you
might have problems with shipping. Generally it is very easy to find
