Any body got any ideas on how I can get the lower unit off my 25hp Evinrude?
(1996) Long shaft. I've got the nuts off all the bolts, it drops off about
1" and won't go any further, Totally not like the Merc I had.

If it is anything like my 115 Johnson, there is a screw, under the carbs,
for the shift linkage. Remove the screw and the lower will fall off.

There might be a plug in the side of the lower unit that you can remove and
find the shift linkage underneath. Pretty sure it's the shift linkage that's
still holding it in place.
