From auction description: This boat was handmade by Fletcher Anderson
in the mid-1980's as a training boat, as part of a set of boats
custom-designed for a World Championships in France. The other boat
was lighter and actually raced in the final event, as I recall. I
bought it from Fletcher in Central Colorado. He's a good guy, kayaking
guru and builder of world class.

14'8" long, 14" wide on the water, 23" wide at the 'wings,' 21.5
pounds. It has a footbrace and a foam wedge for a bit of hip bracing,
but does not include a seat. (I believe the seat was a block of carved
foam that disappeared somewhere.)

It was custom designed for a Worlds on a shallow whitewater river. I
suspect that as a result it would be a good boat for a good paddler in
shallow water. It has a rather flat bottom which helps it avoid
bogging down in shallow water but perhaps makes it a bit tender for
some. I always enjoyed paddling it. I believe that it's very light at
21.5 pounds. It probably wouldn't be a competitive boat for high-level
racing today but would make a decent trainer and all-round speedy
shallow water boat. Or just a plain old fun fast boat! : )

We named it Big Purple or Deep Purple (or both). It has a hull and
deck of mixed construction, I believe: maybe fiberglass hull and
kevlar deck, or perhaps the other way around. The deck is a faded
purple with white eyes painted into the resin. It's a rugged thing,
not all that polished or smooth. A 'character' boat, as they say.

I used it to get 3rd of 4th place overall at the Pole-Pedal-Paddle
race in Jackson Hole in the mid-80's on the Snake River. But I was
never into the high level racing.

Whoever buys it should know flatwater race paddling...or want to
learn. It's fast and fun (and tippy until you let yourself sit easy).

Boat condition is used, with minor scratches. No impact holes or
patches. Quite a bit of fading on hull and deck. There's a couple 1/4"
holes drilled near the cockpit that I forget what they were for.
Purchase is "as is." I haven't paddled it in a few years and so
thought it should have a better home. (Quite a few mid-Mich people
have paddled it for fun over the years, including some nat'l champs!)

BUYER MUST PICK UP OR ARRANGE FOR DELIVERY. I'm located in
Williamston, mid-Michigan. Next week (Aug 10-15) the Nat'l Kayak
Championships are up north a ways in Oscoda. I know people who are
probably going who could probably bring it if you're or a friend will
be there and if you set it up. I can give you ph#'s. I'll help with
trans and can drop off the boat locally, but I won't pack the boat or
be responsible for further trans details.
