Hi all
well heres what I got
1996 Polaris slt 700cc engine
1998 SLTH 700 cc engine
identical engines
Both units will idel fine
but, when ya get out in the water, they both run great for about 10
minutes, then the just cut off, you leave them off for about 10
seconds and hit the starter and off you go for another 10-15 minutes
Both units used to have a issues with the ignition wires comming off
the spark plugs. SO I took both units to the local Polais shop, and
they got that fixed.
Now, they cut out. any thoughts?
Thanks >> Stay informed about: Polaris wave runner cutting out |

Just for grins,
Check the plugs. They should be a BPR9ES or a BR9ES or they can use 8's
instead. Make sure there is a "R" in there. Non-resistor plugs will cause
the Polaris ignitions (and most other ones) to have issues.

Maybe this could be my potential problem also. A buddy is looking to
sell his 96 "SLX??" because he cannot get it to run very long. It
starts and runs great for about 45 minutes, then will just die.
Usually it will restart but only idle. No power at all. If you let it
sit for 15 or 20 minutes it will restart and run for another 15 or 20.
I thought it may be getting vapor lock, but nothing has changed in the
engine. Does anyone think this could be the problem here? If not, any
suggestions. I am thinking about buying it from him and am looking for
some guidance..
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have 2 wave runners
1996 Polaris slt with a 700 cc engine
and a 1998 Polaris slth same engine
the dealership installed the WRONG spark plugs
once I installed the correct plugs, RESISTOR
they boat ran fine
the plug I used were Champion RN-2C
Some other symptoms that my wave runners had was they would run fine
for about 15-30 minutes then just die. you wait for about 30 seconds,
hit the starter and off ya go for another 15-30
I finally bough a service manual and there is a big warning that
states, DO NOT USE NON-RESISTOR SPARK PLUGS
as they interfere with the electronic ignition controls.

Rear exhaust hose may be collapsed. See if it is soft. If so, remove it, and
make sure that it is not internally seperated. Wear nylon gloves. That hose
is DIRTY inside.
Check the front fuel/water seperator. It may be full of water.
Remove the carbs (mechanic only) and check for debris or other blockage.
Fuel pump diaphram could be dying on those old Fuji engines. Very common.
Buy a head gasket and pull the head. Lots of info can be found by looking at
the pistons.
