OK, I just installed an SBT motor in my 96 Polaris. While breaking it
in, I noticed increased vibration, mainly while trolling through no-wake
zones.

There is no excess vibration at idle or at speed, just while trolling at
around 5 mph. The vibration is fairly significant at this speed, so
naturally I am concerned.

I did the alignment when installing the new motor by moving the motor
around to the same wear marks the original motor had created (this is
what my Polaris dealer said to do, because it is all they ever do when
installing a new motor.) The drive shaft went in pretty smoothly,
although it is kind of hard to tell from the back of the craft.

Is this vibration an alignment issue? Motor balancing issue? Something
to be very concerned with or just a little concerned with?

Now that the motor is installed with manifolds, etc., I do not have
access to the mounting bolts.

Thanks for you replies!!!

You might be a little rich on the carbs plus you probably have extra oil
for break in? Most of the Polaris triples have a little rattle down low
but excessive rattle should be fixed. Since you had a previous engine
that didn't shake as much, I would suspect something is wrong with
either the alignment or carb tuning. Might want to give it some time to
break in and see if it gets better?

First, and most important, find a new dealer after you tell them they
are idiots! Polaris sells an alignment tool just for this reason - the
old wear marks mean nothing in your case and you'll end up stripping out
your drivetrain (coupler/driveshaft/prop) if it is not properly aligned.
Second, as Zoltan said, all the Polaris triples have a little shake to
them at certain speeds, some more than others and since you didn't get
your own motor back, but rather someone elses, it may have been a
"shaker". Check and set the alignment and then run it for a few days
and see if it doesn't clear up some with break in. But please, tell
your dealer they are idiots first (no wonder this sport has so many
problems with dealers like this). Good luck.

You can not simply do a driveshaft pump/motor alignment by using the old
wear marks...............YOU MUST USE THE ALIGNMENT TOOL to properly align
the pump to the motor, if you don't you run the risk of striping the shaft
and or coupler, that will set you back another $350.00 US..................
be careful!

If your Polaris dealer is doing motor / pump alignments this
way................ I would find another place to take my craft
