Post subject: Part liveaboard part cruise - London
Archived from groups: uk>rec>boats>motor (more info?)

My wife and I live close to and sail our motor-sailer from Dover, but
we both travel to and need to stay overnight in London regularly. We
are thinking of buying a river/coastal motor cruiser (not
motor-sailer) to keep berthed in London (prob South Dock Marina) for
overnight stays for one or both of us and also for some river/canal
cruising. Budget is low (<£10k) but there seem to be quite a few
boats advertised in that range of 23-27ft, which seems about the right
size for the compromise of comfort vs. economy. Does anyone have
helpful comments or even specific recommendations re type of boat etc?
I am about to view a Colvic Coastal (24ft) locally, but can't find
any info on this boat via the web: anyone know this baot or have
comments?
All help gratefully received and avidly awaited

For most of its life, Colvic manufactured and sold mouldings only,
rather than completed boats. The qualify of completed Colvic craft
therefore varies from excellent, in the case of some yard-built boats,
to truly awful in the case of some home-brews.

Hulls are osmosis-prone, but sufficiently strongly built for it not
usually to be a major problem.

Thanks. We went to see the Colvic in question and it was in your
'truly awful' category, sorry to say. Back to the drawing board!

Roller bunks? - Can anyone have a look at these and give me their opinions? http://www.cesmithco.com/product/roller2.htm They look like a good idea - rollers to replace existing carpeted bunks. I'm not sure how they'd fit though or if there are any draw backs. ..
