Just a quick question. Would using Optimax (or similar) possibly harm a
2-stroke outboard? The Merc manual says to use the best octane rating
you can get, but it's aimed at Yanks with their (often) poor quality fuel.

I only ask because my last 2 boats have started running rough and
misfiring within 6 months of using Optimax. It may be a total
coincidence and they both just needed a service (new fuel filter, plugs
etc) at around the same time, as I admit I don't do it as often as I should!

Anyway, I'm not so bothered if people think Optimax may be a waste of
money, I just want to make sure it actually can't be harmful putting an
octane that high in a 2 stroke.

Cheers,

Why waste money on Optimax ? just use straight forward Unleaded.
My 200hp Suzuki runs a treat on this ... traight form teh pump at
Sainsburys !
As long as you are using a good 2 stroke oil ... I use Quicksilver.
