Lund vs. Princecraft

Lund boats are highly thought of in Minnesota and maintain their value
well. Princecraft are Canadian and have a much smaller market share
here in this part of the country.

The 115 Merc/Yamaha 4 stroke is said to be a very nice motor. The ones
I've observed certainly have been.

My guess is that the boats would both be satisfactory, and perhaps the
choice should be determined by your location and the line carried by
your preferred dealer.

I have owned a 1991 Princecraft Super Pro 196 for 7 years. During that time
we have had to replace the deck and a few rivets have popped below the
waterline. It has been used in salt water and run hard. Handles rough water
ok. When contacting Princecraft with questions a few years ago received
little to no help so I don't bother now. FYI

I have no experience with the specific Lund you mentioned, but I've owned a
WC-14 for 4 years. All it's got is bench seats and the lights *I* installed,
so I can't speak to the issue of how all your attached accessories would
hold up. But:

1) I've asked the dealer numerous times to let me know if a bigger, USED
Lund comes along. His response is always something like "Yeah...right.
You've gotta inherit them from someone. Nobody seems to get rid of them".

2) I take my boat through choppy water it really doesn't belong in and beat
the crap out of it. The only seepage I've ever had is when I haven't noticed
that the drain plug is getting worn out. The rest of the boat's still nice &
tight, and the hull paint has held up beautifully.

Unless I needed a boat style that Lund didn't make, I wouldn't buy anything
else next time around.

As it's been mentioned before, the Lunds retain their value very well. They
also handle bigger water and severe pounding so well, people probably take them
on water they should't. I know I now use my little Lund Rebel on Long Island
Sound and have used it extensively on Lake Erie and Michigan. Lund themselves
are very easy to contact and speak with just about anyone you want to.

I don't know much about Princecraft, never seen one, never been on one. Hard
for me to compare.

I've had a 14.5 ft, high transom Lund for a long time also. Been in lots of
salt water, banged on rocks and driven too hard on the chop.

It's not pretty anymore, but it's watertight and handles bad weather well.
If they made weekend cruisers, my next boat would be a Lund too.

Lund & Princecraft are of equal quality.
Lund is more popular in Minnesota and Princecraft is more popular in
Canada.
I would go with the dealer you feel more comfortable with.
Yes Princecraft & Lund are on the higher end of both quality & price,
but that doesn't mean that some of the other brands are bad. Lots of
people have brands like Alumacraft and Crestliner, and are very happy
with them too. People who buy Alumacraft or Crestliner probably save
a little money over buying a Lund or a Princecraft, and in their mind
they feel that their boat is just as good as Lund or a Princecraft.

Here in Minnesota, where Lund, Crestliner, Alumacraft are all made
(except for the alumacraft jon boats) they are considered close to
equal. When I was shopping a few years ago, the Alumacraft equivilent
of my boat was a few hundred dollars cheaper out of a total package
price of close to 18k.
