I'm about to buy either boat and really wanted a lund with a Honda on the
back, then I sat behind the windshield, I was looking over the top of it. I
sat in the Crestliner and the windshield goes above my head. The lund
dealer told me that the wind shield deflects the wind and I won't have it
blowing in my face, is this a fact?

I'm leaning towards the Crestliner but need to get the dealer to remove the
merc and put on a Honda or a Yamaha.
Thoughts?

I own a "Lund" myself, however it is a completely open boat, tiller steering
and no windshield. My primary fishing buddy owns a "Crestliner" but his is
simply a side-console, again no windshield to speak of. Having said that, I
used to fish occasionally with a fellow who owns a "Lund" 1675 Pro Sport. It
has a dual-console. I know exactly what you're getting at about looking over
the windshield vice through it. I'm going to guess that you're a little bit
taller than I am (I'm 5' 10") because you say you're looking over the
windshield. I found myself looking directly at the top edge of the frame of
the windshield and found it extremely annoying. From a hull design
standpoint though, I personally prefer the "Lund" over the "Crestliner".
Having spent countless hours in both under a multitude of conditions I find
the "Lund" has slightly more comfortable and a much drier ride. The only
explanation I can offer (and I'm certainly no expert) is I think the widest
part of the "Crestliners" beam is right at the transom and the sides of the
boat appear to be much more vertical. Essentially it's shaped like a torpedo
which I found made it an extremely fast hull but a slightly rougher ride in
choppy water and the spray that it generated as it bounced over the waves
had a tendency to come right over the side into the boat. The widest part of
the "Lund" beam appears to be around 2/3's of the way back from the bow and
then it narrows again slightly at the transom. The sides of the "Lund" flare
out quite a bit which I find has a tendency to not only soften the ride in
choppy water but also send the spray away from the sides of the boat at the
same time. Those are my thoughts on the hull. On your choice of motor. Mine
is a Mercury 4 Stroke. I bought it when it was a year old and got a really
good buy on it. If I were to purchase a brand new motor and had my choice of
any brand, I'd spend the little bit extra and go for the "Honda" in a
heartbeat

Thanks for you input Moe, just so you know I'm going to go with the
Crestliner and I do so with a heavy heart, I wanted to be a Lund man, but
when I decided to upgrade from a tiller to a Steer Wheel boat, I just can't
get over the Windshield and the way it is set up. I have never been in a
Crestliner in the water but I'm sure going from a 14 ft to a 17 ft boat I
will find it a way better ride.
As for the motor looks like its rigged for a Merc, dealer in Yellowknife is
letting me know the cost of changing over the rigging, if its at all cheap
<500 I will ask for the Honda.

Ah yes, "Force One" marine. If memory serves they only started selling
"Honda's" last year. I am very familiar with the Yellowknife area. I just
left there last August. If ever given the opportunity I will move back
again. I will be back in July for 2 weeks of fishing. Anyhow I'm confident
you'll be happy with your new "Crestliner" however I do have one question.
If you have decided you are going to buy a "Crestliner" and you want a
"Honda" outboard to power it, why should you have to pay the dealer to
change over the controls and rigging? I would only pay the difference in
cost between the 2 motors (the "Honda" will be a bit more) and let the
dealer absorb the cost of doing the swap. If they refused (and they probably
will) I would take my business elsewhere. For what it's worth, I've never
had much time for "Force One" and rather than listen to their "If I don't
buy it then someone else will" line of bullshit I just drove south to
Edmonton and bought my boat there instead. Yes I saved more than enough to
pay for the fuel for the round trip.

The boat that I was refering to was one that had it setup already and like
you said if I wanted to pull the motor off to swap it out it would be at my
cost.

However, I had asked them for thier price list for the boat show and looks
like I will be going with a 1750 and a Honda on it already the boat is just
a few K more and has allot of more features that I like.

So you spent a few years up in Yellowknife, any tips for living up there, I
will be working with the Canadian Rangers. I'm really looking forward to
this move, seems like it should be a nice adventure for a few years.
