I know that the certifying groups (CPS, ISPA, CYA) claim that
certification gets you lower insurance rates.

I am not a boat owner, but I am curious about the groups experiences
in this regard.

Also does the Pleasure Craft Operator's card affect insurance? I do
not want to start a discussion about the requirement for the PCOC.
That has been beaten to death.

Jack:

My CPS membership has earned a 10% discount on the premium since I passed
the exam and bought my first boat in 1995. The underwriter states the
discount given on the policy.

The PCOC was issued to CPS members at it's inception and I don't know what
affect it has as a stand-alone.

Jack, get a boat. You need a boat.
