Post subject: Information on fiber glass construction methods
Archived from groups: rec>boats>building (more info?)

Hi,

I am a newby starting to read some boat construction magazines but
most of the information passes me by because I lack the basic
knowledge around construction techniques.

Are there any urls/papers that describe and explain what type of fiber
glass construction techniques are available and their pros and cons
(for instance: I would like to understand what is closed molding,
resin infusion,.... and where each is used) ?

Thanks/Brgds
Joćo

If your question relates specifically to building fiberglass boats,
several of the basic 'one-off' fiberglass building methods are
described here:

http://www.glen-l.com/methods/methdfg.html

The 'resin infusion' method you ask about is a bit more advanced than
the Glen-L site will delve into, and generally is not a method used by
first-timers. A Google search for 'vacuum baging' will get you
started down this path.
