Post subject: Improting homebuilt from Michigan
Archived from groups: can>rec>boating (more info?)

Just a follow up. Two weeks ago I went over and purchased a boat. Left with
a friend at 6:00am, crossed at Sarnia. US Customs were fairly laid back
until I mention a purchase and then wanted to know if it was cash. Thanks to
Pat's web site I took a bank draft. After grilling about cash we were waived
through without and ID checking.

Loaded the boat on my trailer and crossed back just after noon. Got directed
to the side and a nice young lady came over and started looking at the
trailer, read the inscription on the hitch and asked about a sticker. No
interest in the boat, so when I mentioned it was my trailer she lost
interest and directed me inside. Lady with computer upon finding out about
the boat went and got some large legal duplicate forms for me to fill out
about the trailer. Upon hearing it was my trailer I was directed to the
cashier, paid and was on my way. Total crossing time was 15 min.

Nobody looked in the boat but they sure were interested in the trailer.Smile

Glad to hear it went smoothly. What did they charge you - Ont. sales
tax or duty too?

You wouldn't believe the number of emails I get every week asking
questions about importing boats - even though my feedback page states
very clearly I don't answer questions about the subject!
