I am planning a trip down the Hudson River to New York City and one of my
concerns is the salt water. I have an inboard/outboard Volvo Penta engine
that has never been in salt water . do I have anything to be concerned with?

I got a Mercruiser in/out, when i called a few dealers, they told me
there was no problem if you don't stay more than a month in salt water.

So i believe you won't have any trouble too.
