Archived from groups: can>rec>boating (more info?)

Hi Group,
During the monsoon S. Ont enjoyed over the long weekend, I noticed that
one of my hatches on the foredeck leaks. I had repaired it 2 years ago.
At that time I removed the hatch and frame completely, cleaned the area
and used Sikaflex to seal it. I noticed that the frame screws were not
going into much other than the fiberglass and the foam core. I was
wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what I could use to make the
screws hold better as well as what the best material would be for the
frame-to-fiberglass seal.
I have seen putty advertised for RVs, and would like to know if anyone
has tried it. I read one of David Pascoe's articles regarding sealing
leaks and I would like to try the creata-gasket method, using shims,
however I will have to improve the holding power of the screws in order
to try it.
I would prefer not to dig out the core and replace it with wood as I am
not at a shop and only have hand tools. Has anyone tried the plastic
anchors that work in masonry?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Kevin

Hi Charles,
Thanks for the link.
Think I'll try Life Seal, West Marine rates it VG for sealing.
