Happy New Year, Scott! Long time to see post. Like Blakely said, this
NG's abouy dead anymore, nothing like the heydays when we used to go
'round and 'round about land ownership issues. Ahhh, the good old days,
eh?

Nice to hear see some old friends pop up. Made my morning.

RBP is awfully quiet. Guess BoatSquak has all the traffic now.
And I suspect some people have gone the Blog route.

Like John said, we really did have some good discussions going
in years past. Some of the river books published even started to
quote the discussions here.

Brad - thought about you just this last weekend while out ice fishing
in a -15 degree day with a 20 mph wind blowing on my back. No
matter how cold it gets, I can still tell everyone "Well it could be
worse - like in Fairbanks". Course the only time I was there it
was June and over 90 degrees. (Did a job for Carr's)
Great town to eat in.

Riverman - still feel guilty about not making that RSA trip. The gap
between what I want to do and what I need to do seems to keep
growing. Really chaps my hide given my love for adventure.

Not just yet. Things were dicey for a while...and still are, but I haven't
had to sell the farm yet, though it's come quite near to bankrupting me to
do so.

No, both Wayne Laugesen (the Editor) and I quit the Weekly in December of
2002. We (along with his lovely wife Dede) now own and operate three small
companies, a media creation business called "Windhover Creative Partners", a
news/op-ed business called "Altnews" (still on the drawing board) and a DVD
video business making religious education videos for Catholics and their
children. Our first DVD, "Holy Baby! Seven Prayers in Seven Languages" is on

Thanks Blakely, it's been a tough, tough two years, with a lot of hard work
ahead to straighten things out. Still, having a product on the market gives
me hope of success at least, and given how well it's been selling for being
on the market only since October, things are looking up.

Well, no worries. I've managed to explore much of RSA, Congo and the
adjoining countries, but access to honest-to-god canoes seems to be
impossible on this continent. I haven't managed a single soul-fulfilling
canoe trip since Latvia, two years ago. On the other hand, I've committed to
a battery recharging year off next year, with the specific task of doing
some river trips on familar waters as well as some new ones. Maybe we'll
still do something up in your neck of the woods when you have time off....it
looks like I'm going to have a chunk of it

Brad, I'd known you were still around, I'd have tried to find you in
Fairbush last summer. My quest this summer was Canada, but I spent
September in AK. I'd had ambitions to do a trip in the Koyukuk, but I was
just too much of a sissy to start off into a howling horizontal whiteout.

My posting style never was to begin a discussion, just to jump into a
discussion already ensuing and add my meretricious piffle into it!

I did post here once looking for a used drysuit though. Got one too! I
stil wear it, a large Kokatat GoreTEX /w/ built-in neo booties. I had
the latex neck and wrist gaskets replaced this year, and added a pee
zipper too! (Never realized how many rapids I had boated with a full
bladder until I got that pee zipper installed. Yay!)

I'm leaving next Saturday for a drive to Miami, a month in S Africa, another
