I have a 97 SLT 700 that was given to me and appears to have been sitting
2-3 yrs. Upon inspection I noticed the carbs appear very clean and the
plugs are new (i.e. someone has tried to crack this baby recently...).

I changed the fuel and filters and even sprayed WD40 into the carbs to try
and crank it. The engine has fire to the plugs but when you try to crank it
the engine backfires about ever 30-40 strokes of the engine.

Suggestions of were and what to look for???

Thanks in advance.

Dont use wd-40 to try and start it , if its getting spark, try skwirting a
little gas in the carbs a little at a time untill it starts

Drain the fuel out of the fuel tank, sounds like it could have
moisture in the fuel.

Use Sea-Doo lube for manual start-up.

I was told they rebuilt the engine. How do I check to see if the timming is
correct (i.e. perhaps someone made a mistake when re-installing the engine)
