Okay,
I realize that I am opening a whole can o worms here, but... can someone
recommend a good spray cleaner / wax. I ski at a couple of lakes that are
99% hard water and by the end of the day the ski looks pretty beat! I want
to take the best possible care of my investment. Any input is greatly
appreciated.

Also, what about water and vinegar between cleanings at the lake?

Harbottles:

The trick is to stay on top of cleaning your ski from the get go. The
combination I use is this:

1. Brand new ski - I use a polish called "Race Glaze" before the ski even
touches the water the first time. It is a liquid polish. Caution . . . do
not was the bottom of your ski. This is particularly true if you have a
stand-up. The effect is a loss of control. The ski will slide out on you.
Now if you just want to go balls out straight, maybe that's the route to go,
but I don't recommend it. In the old days of strictly stand-up racing, the
pros actually scuffed up the bottom of brand new skiis which makes me think
the manufacturers (OK, manufacturer because it was only Kawasaki in those
days) should have had a pattern of some sort on the mold for the hull below
the bond line.

2. I use a product called "Ducky" for waterspot removal. 3M also makes a
product designed to remove hard water spots.

3. After riding my ski - every single time - I rinse it water from a hose
that's connected to the soft water supply from our house (I primarily just
ride on the lake where I live because we're only an island). Then I use
Honda spray polish and wipe the ski down.

I have a 13 year old Kawasaki 550 that looks brand new from giving it this
treatment over the years.

Of the three products, the Honda spray is the easiest to find at any Honda
dealer. The other two you can do a Google search for. If that doesn't
work, e-mail me privately and I'll look up the ordering info.

I use the same Blue Coral Wash & Wax I use on my trucks after every time I
ride. Before and after the season I hand wax with Finish 2001. Then every
few trips I use Pledge furniture polish on it to keep up the wax. Sounds
crazy but a local dealer uses it on his boats & PWC to keep the shine up. I
also use armor all on the seat, grips, rub rail, & glove box. My 98 Polaris
shines good! Now the foot well pads....How do you take care of those?????
Mine look like hammered hell...need to get new ones end of this season.

The vinegar and water will cut the hard water spots but it will also
instantly strip any wax off. Use the mixture only when you are then
ready to wax it with a good automotive polish. Use 303 Protectant on
the vinyl (not armor all). Don't wax the bottom of the ski.

I use a product called Crazy Clean. It cleans fiberglass and seats
really well. Wet the whole craft down and spray this stuff on - use a
"very" soft bristle brush and scrub the whole craft down and get in
all the tough spots. Rinse off and your boat will look like new. You
can find it at boating supply stores like Boat US or Boaters World.
You only need to do this once per season and apply a good coat of wax
after cleaning. Use 303 protectant on the vinyl and do this
frequently to prevent fading.
