FL West Coast DIY yards

Skip,

Would Port Canaveral by too far north for you? We have a pretty good yard up
here "Cape Marina" who'se prices I'm sure are lower than Lauderdale. Some
talent around too. Cape does charge vendors for working in the yard. Cape
has full painting and sandblasting services if required.

Some folks I know have used Salt Creek Boat Works, but I think the
yard was in flux at that time. I've been there, but I don't know
exactly where it was (someone else was driving), but I think in the
Tampa St. Pete area.

Green Cove Springs Marina is an old Navy base about 40 miles up the St.
Johns River is a DIY.

charlotte harbour boat storage inc., on the upper west side of
charlotte harbour, punta gorda, entrance through boca grande pass
great yard, 4 dollars a foot for storage, six miles up a fresh water
canal[ to rinse out your cooling]. probably full for this year but
look them up.the owner ," joe' knows everything , he used to build the
brewer 42' at ft myers yacht and ship building. can't say enough.

We were, in fact, headed there on several advices from this and other groups
(having first determined that All American Boat Storage was just that - you
can't do *anything* on your boat, nor can any contractor, there; it's next
door, literally). A visit to the site suggested nothing alarming, other
than the boats were rafted well over half the width of the channel, waiting
for the remaining (the other was in pieces in the yard) lift.

However, we ran *hard* aground trying to get up the channel, while still in
the harbor. Many phone calls and VHF later, we determined that the most
optimistic depth at high tide to get into the tributary under the locks was
5-6. We draw over 6, and had been told by several at both yards that coming
in at high tide would be fine.

Well, it wasn't a fine, but it acted like one, on stupidity, because it cost
us many hundreds of bux to get pulled off the mud.

I can't speak to their service. However, I can definitively tell you that
you can't get there with any more than 5-6, and then, it's at high tide,
optimistically.

Lydia's still steaming, over 8 weeks later. Cheap is good, but only when
you can get to it...
