I have a Yamaha Wave Runner XL, 1998, with the 760 engine. It is really
hard to start, but seems to run well at high speed etc., after it is
warmed up. My problem is with oil consumption. When idiling it seems to
be very rich, (if the wind blows wrong im stuck in an exhaust cloud),
and the stern of the pwc is covered in black exhaust. In approx. 15
hours of operation this year I have gone thru almost 2 GALLONS of oil!
In the aftermarket manual i bought it says that the oil flow is
determined by the rpm the motor is running, and it does not seem to be
adjustable. Is this true? Is there a diaphram in the oil pump that may
be leaking or ruptured? Any help or advice on this problem would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark
