Archived from groups: rec>boats (more info?)

I've seen many posts about this but I'd like to double check. I've
got an old 1967 3HP Evinrude model 3716 that I'm bringing back from
the dead. So far I've freed the seized heads, rebuild the stator,
have spark, and cleaned the carbs.

It's time for fuel test, and I was wondering about the oil: gas
mixture. I've got a manual on order, but I won't get it until Monday
and would love to get it working this weekend. Should I go with the
modern 50:1 or the more classic 24:1 or 16:1? As I said I'm waiting
on the manual so I'm not sure what the original spec was. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Kurt

I would go with 24:1 for the first gallon or two. After that 50:1 should
work (assuming that the engine has needle bearings for the rods rather
than bronze bushings).
BTW, how did you clean the carbs? As I recall, that engine only had one
carb. And did you mean that you freed up the seized pistons rather than
the head?
Good luck and good boating,
Jim

115 Evinrude outboard trim problem - I have a 115 hp Evinrude outboard model # 115999R (don't know what year). The trim quit working. The motor for it still whirs and sounds the same when I push the down button, but since it's stuck in the down position it doesn't move. When I push the up..

Evinrude Help - My mid to late 60's Evinrude (40HP) sometimes jumps out of gear, but only for a few seconds, what might be the cause of this? The motor will go into gear fine but under power it will jump out of gear and loose power and than go back into gear again with ...

Evinrude stalls at idle - I'm missing the model & year of the motor in question here, but perhaps the symptom's generic enough that it won't matter: Out on a friend's boat this weekend. He's got a 70 hp Evinrude 2 stroke, 3 cylinder. The motor ran nicely all day long, starte...

Starting a Honda outboard question - I have a Bennington pontoon boat and a Honda 4 stroke 90 HP engine. It seems I always have a problem starting this engine, and I am very sure the problem is me. This is my procedure, maybe someone can correct me: 1. I pump the throttle handle 3 times. I...

1971 Evinrude 50 hp tell tale - My old '71 Evinrude 50 doesn't have a tell tale, however, I read an article on the net that stated hooking up a tell tale is relatively simple. The article said there is a bolt on the cylinder head that leads directly to a water passage, that you remove....
