I've read about downriver open canoe racing in a book and it made me want to
look into it.

In terms of readily available boats I've read that the Old Town Penobscot is
meant to be OK for tandem crews but I have in mind a solo canoe, maybe
something a little more intense, and I can't see their 15 footer being high
sided and dry running enough for solo downriver racing.

Who manufactures dedicated solo downriver racers these days? How about
availability? Recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Jack

It depends if it's flat water with current or class two rapids. Wenona
probably has the best selection. My current boat is a 17' ICF sit down "hit
and switch". It weighs in at 24#. It rather tippy, and the newer solo boats
in the 17' range are a bit more stable. More extreame boats are available
thru links in the Texas Water Safari.
