For years I have seen the term "convertible" applied to boats and have suddenly
realized that I have no idea what it means. May I have help here? Search
engines have failed me.

Thanks

After flybridge boats started adding an 'aft-cabin' at the stern,
resulting in a very high aft deck. 'Convertible' describes the older
cockpit style - my preference, but you don't see many new boats this
style.

Thank you. So "convertible" is really a misnomer, isn't it? One can't convert
between the high (poop) deck stern with the aft cabin and the standard lower
spacious afterdeck, right?
